Failure is Not the End of Everything

“I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.”
― Thomas Edison

There are may inspirational stories of our past that will tell us that defeats are just temporary and failure is not the end of everything. Henry Ford failed and went broke five times before he finally succeeded. Beethoven handled the violin awkwardly and preferred playing his own compositions instead of improving his technique. His teacher called him hopeless as a composer. Albert Einstein did not speak until he was four years old and didn't read until he was seven. His teacher described him as "mentally slow, unsociable and adrift forever in his foolish dreams." He was expelled and refused admittance to Zurich Polytechnic School. The University of Bern turned down his PhD dissertation as being irrelevant and fanciful. When General Douglas MacArthur applied for admission to West Point, he was turned down, not once but twice. But he tried a third time, was accepted and marched into the history books.

As Winston Churchill quotes, "Failure is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." Life is a series of ups and downs, you have to learn both. Life is full of screwups, you are supposed to fail sometimes. It is a required part of human existence. Just because you fail once doesn't mean you gonna fail at everything.

The most important thing is that you learned every time you lose and that you never lose courage. The Bible is right that "the race is not for the swift, nor the battle is for the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all" (Ecclesiastes 9:11). It is faith that will keep us alive during those hours of difficulties and trouble until the light of hope sprung up.

Heroes of faith in the Bible will surely inspire us for by faith they obtain a good report. The elders shew us a good example of faith for us to follow. These people believe in God though it seems hard to believe in. They did not mind their circumstances but positively acted upon God's promises. May these verses continue to inspire you as you go through many conflicts and troubles in life:
Hebrews 11
King James Bible

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh. By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised. Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable. These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city. By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure. By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come. By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff. By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones. By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment. By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward. By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible. Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them. By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned. By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days. By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace. And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions. Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect."
Failure is not the end of everything. Have faith always. Never give up, believing in God and believing in yourself!

The Blessedness Coming from the Law of God

I am so happy that I am able to share with you some words of encouragement through this blog. I was thinking of what should I write so that, at the very least, I may be a help to someone today. Then, a flash came to my mind - since I am writing about success, why not write success principles found in the Bible? Surely, the Bible is the surest source of real success in life. To become a real success is to live a victorious life with God. The world is programmed to destruction and corruption, the only way to revive us from all these things is by reading, listening, and keeping the words of God. The word of God is the incorruptible seed that is able to give us new life and to save our souls from destruction. We are not all physically flesh, but we are also spiritual beings; for it is written, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but also by every word that proceeds out from the mouth of God". If you think the Bible is of no use to you, think it twice. You are a spiritual being like the angels, you need to eat the word of God so that your soul will live and survive in this deteriorating world. So, let's begin...

Psalm 1:1-6

King James Bible
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Blessed comes from the Hebrew word esher which means happy and contented. As you can see in verse 1, a righteous man is a blessed man, a happy man. As Charles Spurgeon said, "It is not 'blessed is the king, blessed is the scholar, blessed is the rich' but 'blessed is the man'. This blessedness is as attainable by the poor, the forgotten, and the obscure, as by those whose names figure in history, and are trumpeted by fame". So blessedness is for everyone who walk straight and right before God.

So what does a righteous blessed man really do and do not?

A righteous man do not (in verse 1)...
Walks in the counsel of the ungodly.
Stands in the path of sinners.
Sits in the seat of the scornful.
We can see here that a righteous man and the ungodly man thinks, behaves and do differently. The ungodly has a counsel as you can see. A righteous man can see it and knows how to discern it and does not walk in it.  Sinners have a path as you can see. A righteous man knows he does not belong to that path and he is not travelling in the same direction with sinners. The scornful have a seat as you can see. A righteous man does not criticize but uplifts the soul of others.

A righteous blessed man do (in verse 2)...
Delights in the Law of God.
Meditates on the Law of God day and night.
The spiritual Law of God in contrast to the carnal Law of Moses is used to describe the entire word of God, the Holy Bible. The righteous man is delighted in the word of God! The Law of God is his delight, and he is always excited with the things that belongs to God. The righteous man ponders on the word of God. He does not just hear it and forget it, but he thinks of it and study it. As you can see, a righteous man ponders on the word of God day and night. Because the word of God is the ultimate source of real blessings.

So, how does a righteous man is blessed? (in verse 3)
He shall be like tree planted by the rivers of water.
He brings forth fruit in his season.
His leaf shall not wither.
Whatsoever he does shall prosper.
A tree near the water will not die in the year of drought. It would be strong and stable all year round. A righteous man will be so. He will have fruits in his time, he will not have dryness, and whatsoever he does shall prosper. This is the truth in it. The word of God would be its rivers.

The ungodly are not so...
The ungodly are like chaff which the wind drives away.
The ungodly will not stand in judgment.
The ungodly are like light shells of a kernel of a grain, they have a dangerous place and a dangerous future. They are carried by the wind everywhere, and much more they will be found lacking in the day of judgment.

For God knows the way of the righteous, for He loves righteousness. The righteous man have peace with God. But the way of the ungodly will only lead to destruction.

No Job? Why Not Start Your Freelance Business Online?

Starting a freelance business on the internet is one of the best ways you can achieve personal freedom and financial independence. The capital requirement is minimal, you do not need a huge starting capital for you to start with. The only things that you will need are: your own computer, the internet connection, and your writing skills plus courage, patience, and perseverance. It won't be easy from the start, but unlike being employed in a private company, you won't have to follow orders from your own boss and work with annoying and incompetent colleagues. You own all of your time, and you are the one that will determine how much effort you will exert and how much money you are going to earn. If you are a freelance writer, you can write whenever suits you best and stop whenever you like it. You can start through a hobby at first by writing short articles until it will become a full-blown career. The path is exciting but you need to be patient and should persevere from the start.

A freelance career has so much to offer to someone who really loves what he or she is doing. Rather than working in an office, the freelance jobs can be done at the comfort of your home. There are advantages and disadvantages, and it all depends on your current situation and preference.

Here are the best sites where you can begin and develop your freelance career and start earning money as a freelancer:

1.] oDesk.com
This is my favorite freelance job site. I started working at oDesk as a spending consultant to a client from Cambridge. Though the agreed hourly rate is not so great, the work is fun and satisfying. oDesk provide a very high quality service with its very friendly support team and simple yet very effective messaging system. The commission that they cut from your earnings is very minimal.
2.] Freelancer.com
This is one of the world's biggest outsourcing destination. It is now almost 10 years of operation since its launch in 2003. It is easy to signup for a new account and it is all free. This is the best place for you to start and develop your freelance skills.

3.] Elance.com
Now merged with oDesk, Elance was one of the oldest and most trusted freelance website. Elance has a very large number of freelancers in different fields like web design, graphics, content writing, and many more. About thousands of jobs were posted every month, so there's always a huge scope of getting fresh jobs.

The Way to Financial Freedom: The Three Legged Stool

Financial independence is a state wherein you have sufficient wealth without having to work actively in order to meet your basic necessities. You are financially independent if your own assets or properties generate income greater than your expenses.  It does not matter how young or old you are or how much money you have or make. If you can generate money to meet your needs from sources other than your primary occupation, then you have achieved financial independence. You won't have to worry about money anymore, and you have much time doing other valuable things.

Financial planning is the tool that you need to get from where you are to the financial freedom that you desire. A balanced financial plan  is like a stool that has three legs, namely, (1) saving, (2) investing, and (3) insurance. If you try to remove one of the legs,  the stool will teeter unsteadily and may crash, taking you with it.

For start-ups, the legs of the stool are not so easy to put up. You have to build them one by one until the stool is stable.  The path of building the stool is from saving to investing to insurance. This is what I learned from reading financial books and lifelong learning program, and I am very eager to share this to you.   Let us first talk about saving.

SAVING

Saving is putting away or storing money, or preventing waste of money so you can have much money for future use.  The first thing first is, you have to save in order for you to have something to invest in the future. The basic rule with regard to how to save your money is that you should put aside 10%-20% of your income until you have enough to cover 3-6 months of your expenses. The correct equation for saving is :

INCOME - SAVINGS = EXPENSES, and not
INCOME - EXPENSES = SAVINGS
Every time you receive an income, you have to take away savings first, let us say 10% or 20%, and put it aside not to be moved. The remaining balance will cover all your expenses.

Saving is best achieved through a good budgeting program. Anyway, there's no getting around budgeting - it is a requirement for good money management. There's no need to have a negative attitude about budgeting. Don't think of it as a chore or a punishment. Neither think about it as a financial diet. It is simply a tool to increase your consciousness of how and where you spend your money. It is a guideline to help you spend your money on things that are most important to you. A budget is like a rudder of a ship; without it, we muddle through, unable to stay on course because we have no course charted and we have no tool for steering through the currents that constantly swirl around us.

INVESTING

After you have save much money or you have excess money, you need to invest it so you can earn from it. This is what they call "you do not work for money but money works for you". This is the right thing to do because you should be the "master" of money instead of being its "slave".

Investing is putting away money or time with the expectation of achieving a profit or a material result. Investing can take many forms. You can invest in a small business, stocks in the stock market, real estate, precious stones, bonds, money market funds, and many more to enumerate. Investing, in its simplest sense, is buying a thing with money with the hope of making a profit in return by selling it or utilizing it. If you buy for example a box of candy with the hope of making a profit by selling it in a small classroom, you are definitely investing - in a box of candy, the instrument or vehicle of your investment.

Investing is not spending or purchasing. You're not spending money frivolously, you're investing! Making money through investing requires researching and evaluating different kind of investments. The decisive test is whether there is a potential to turn a profit. The important word is "potential" because not every legitimate investment makes money.

INSURANCE

If you are investing in a business, for example, you definitely need insurance. Insurance simply helps you protect your investments. Insurance is a tool that provides protection for any possible eventuality. You've worked hard to save money and invest, so you need to be sure that everything is protected. Accidents and disasters can and do happen, and if you aren’t adequately insured, it could leave you in financial ruin. You need insurance to protect your life, your ability to earn income, and to keep a roof over your head.

FINANCIAL FREEDOM IS ATTAINABLE IF...

Statistics show that rich people are almost always conservative. They maintain low levels of debt. They save money, and they continue to look for ways to increase it while minimizing risk.  These should help you become rich and achieve financial freedom:
 (1) Develop and write a long-term plan.
(2) Save money and make a budget.
(3) Resolve to live debt-free.
(4) Reduce your expenses.
(5) Increase your income.
(6) Invest.
(7) Get insurance for your precious investments.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change was a groundbreaker when it was first published in 1990, and it continues to be a business bestseller with more than 10 million copies sold. Stephen Covey, an internationally respected leadership authority, realizes that true success encompasses a balance of personal and professional effectiveness, so this book is a manual for performing better in both arenas. His anecdotes are as frequently from family situations as from business challenges.

Before you can adopt the seven habits, you'll need to accomplish what Covey calls a "paradigm shift"--a change in perception and interpretation of how the world works. Covey takes you through this change, which affects how you perceive and act regarding productivity, time management, positive thinking, developing your "proactive muscles" (acting with initiative rather than reacting), and much more.

The book first introduces the concept of Paradigm Shift and prepares the reader for a change in mindset. It helps the reader understand that a different perspective exists, a viewpoint that may be different from his or her own, and asserts that two people can see the same thing and yet differ with each other. Once the reader is prepared for this, it introduces the seven habits in a proper order.
Each chapter is dedicated to one of the habits, which are represented by the following imperatives:

Independence

The First Three Habits surround moving from dependence to independence (i.e., self-mastery):
  • Habit #1: Be Proactive
Take initiative in life by realizing that your decisions (and how they align with life's principles) are the primary determining factor for effectiveness in your life. Take responsibility for your choices and the consequences that follow.
  • Habit #2: Begin with the End in Mind
Self-discover and clarify your deeply important character values and life goals. Envision the ideal characteristics for each of your various roles and relationships in life.
  • Habit #3: Put First Things First
A manager must manage his own person. Personally. And managers should implement activities that aim to reach the second habit. Covey says that rule two is the mental creation; rule three is the physical creation.

Interdependence

The next three habits talk about Interdependence (e.g. working with others):
  • Habit #4: Think Win-Win
Genuinely strive for mutually beneficial solutions or agreements in your relationships. Value and respect people by understanding a "win" for all is ultimately a better long-term resolution than if only one person in the situation had got his way.
  • Habit #5: Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood
Use empathic listening to be genuinely influenced by a person, which compels them to reciprocate the listening and take an open mind to being influenced by you. This creates an atmosphere of caring, and positive problem solving.
  • Habit #6: Synergize
Combine the strengths of people through positive teamwork, so as to achieve goals no one person could have done alone.

The Law of Success in Sixteen Lessons

The Law of Success (originally The Law of Success in 16 Lessons) is the title of Napoleon Hill’s first book set, published initially in 1928 as an multi-volume correspondence course and later more compact formats in recent years. The work was originally commissioned at the request of Andrew Carnegie at the conclusion of a multi-day interview with Hill, and was based upon interviews of over 100 American millionaires across nearly 20 years, including such self-made industrial giants as Henry Ford, J. P. Morgan, John D. Rockefeller, Alexander Graham Bell, and Thomas Edison. The Law of Success was first used as a lecture, and was delivered by its author in practically every city and in many smaller localities, throughout the United States over a period of more than seven years.

The following are the outline and contents of Napoleon Hill's book.

1. The Master Mind

The concept of The Master Mind, which Dr. Hill defines "as a mind that is developed through the harmonious cooperation of two or more people who ally themselves for the purpose of accomplishing any given task." Hill uses ideas from physics to illustrate the synergy that occurs between like-minded individuals. He also warns of the danger to the master mind group of any single member who thinks negatively. Another key insight from Hill is that knowledge is not power – it is only potential power. He defines power as "...organized knowledge, expressed through intelligent efforts." The master mind group makes this happen.

2. A Definite Chief Aim

A DEFINITE CHIEF AIM will teach you how to save the wasted effort which the majority of people expend in trying to find their life-work. This lesson will show you how to do away forever with aimlessness and fix your heart and hand upon some definite, well conceived purpose as a life-work.

3. Self-Confidence

SELF-CONFIDENCE will help you master the six basic fears with which every person is cursed: the fear of Poverty, the fear of Ill Health, the fear of Old Age, the fear of Criticism, the fear of Loss of Love of Someone, and the fear of Death. It will teach you the difference between egotism and real self-confidence which is based upon definite, usable knowledge.

4. The Habit of Saving

HABIT OF SAVING will teach you how to distribute your income systematically so that a definite percentage of it will steadily accumulate, thus forming one of the greatest known sources of personal power. No one may succeed in life without saving money. There is no exception to this rule, and no one may escape it.

5. Initiative and Leadership

INITIATIVE AND LEADERSHIP will show you how to become a leader instead of a follower in your chosen field of endeavor. It will develop in you the instinct for leadership which will cause you gradually to gravitate to the top in all undertakings in which you participate.

6. Imagination

IMAGINATION will stimulate your mind so that you will conceive new ideas and develop new plans which will help you in attaining the object of your Definite Chief Aim. This lesson will teach you how to "build new homes out of old stones", so to speak. It will show you how to create new ideas out of old, well known concepts, and how to put old ideas to new uses. This one lesson, alone, is the equivalent of a very practical course in salesmanship, and it is sure to prove a veritable gold mine of knowledge to the person who is in earnest.

7. Enthusiasm

ENTHUSIASM will enable you to "saturate" all with whom you come in contact with interest in you and in your ideas. Enthusiasm is the foundation of a Pleasing Personality, and you must have such a personality in order to influence others to co-operate with you.

8. Self-Control

SELF-CONTROL is the "balance wheel" with which you control your enthusiasm and direct it where you wish it to carry you. This lesson will teach you, in a most practical manner, to become "the master of your fate, the Captain of your Soul."

9. The Habit Of Doing More Than Paid For

THE HABIT OF DOING MORE THAN PAID FOR is one of the most important lessons of the Law of Success course. It will teach you how to take advantage of the Law of Increasing Returns, which will eventually insure you a return in money far out of proportion to the service you render. No one may become a real leader in any walk of life without practicing the habit of doing more work and better work than that for which he is paid.

10. A Pleasing Personality

PLEASING PERSONALITY is the "fulcrum" on which you must place the "crow-bar" of your efforts, and when so placed, with intelligence, it will enable you to remove mountains of obstacles. This one lesson, alone, has made scores of Master Salesmen. It has developed leaders over night. It will teach you how to transform your personality so that you may adapt yourself to any environment, or to any other personality, in such a manner that you may easily dominate.

11. Accurate Thinking

ACCURATE THINKING is one of the important foundation stones of all enduring success. This lesson teaches you how to separate "facts" from mere "information." It teaches you how to organize known facts into two classes: the "important" and the "unimportant." It teaches you how to determine what is an "important" fact. It teaches you how to build definite working plans, in the pursuit of any calling, out of FACTS.

12. Concentration

CONCENTRATION teaches you how to focus your attention upon one subject at a time until you have found a way to master that subject and have put that knowledge into operation. He gives you techniques on how to insure that your goal is concentrated on until you have completed that goal.

13. Cooperation

CO-OPERATION will teach you the value of team-work in all you do. In this lesson you will be taught how to apply the law of the "Master Mind" described in this Introduction and in Lesson Two of this course. This lesson will show you how to co-ordinate your own efforts with those of others, in such a manner that friction, jealousy, strife, envy and cupidity will be eliminated. You will learn how to make use of all that other people have learned about the work in which you are engaged.

14. Profiting by Failure

PROFITING BY FAILURE will teach you how to make stepping stones out of all of your past and future mistakes and failures. It will teach you the difference between "failures" and "temporary defeat," a difference which is very great and important. It will teach you how to profit by your own failures and by the failures of other people.

15. Tolerance

TOLERANCE will teach you how to avoid the disastrous effects of racial and religious prejudices which mean defeat for millions of people who permit themselves to become entangled into foolish argument over these subjects, thereby poisoning their own minds and closing the door to reason and investigation. This lesson is the twin sister of the one on ACCURATE THOUGHT, for the reason that no one may become an Accurate Thinker without practicing tolerance. Intolerance closes the book of knowledge and writes on the cover, "Finished, I have learned it all!" Intolerance makes enemies of those who should be friends. It destroys opportunity and fills the mind with doubt, mistrust and prejudice.

16. The Golden Rule

PRACTICING THE GOLDEN RULE will teach you how to make use of the great universal law of human conduct in such a manner that you may easily get harmonious co-operation from any individual or group of individuals. Lack of understanding of the law upon which the Golden Rule philosophy is based, is one of the major causes of failure of millions of people who remain in misery, poverty and want all their lives. This lesson has nothing whatsoever to do with religion in any form, nor with sectarianism, nor have any of the other lessons of this course on the Law of Success.
